Formally established in 1987, the AATE has existed in one form or another since the early 1930s to increase the role of the performing arts and education in the lives of the nation’s children. They believe that meeting the needs of its young people is a measure of a nation’s worth, and their current mission focuses on serving theatre artists, educators and scholars committed to transforming young people and their communities through the theater arts. They believe in the benefits of diversity, and in equity, justice and inclusion for all, and envision a world in which every child has access to the performing arts in their cities, communities, and schools.
